Like other Store (UWP) apps, the new Calculator can have issues. Sometimes it refuses to start or silently crashes. If you are running into such issues, here are a number of methods you can use to fix Calculator.
First of all, you should try to reset it. It can be done with Settings.
Fix: Calculator is not opening in Windows 10
Now, try to open Calculator. Tip: You can launch Calculator directly as described in the following article: Run Calculator in Windows 10 directly.
If this doesn't help, try to reinstall the app in the OS. Here is how it can be done.
Reinstall Calculator in Windows 10
As you may already know, the built-in Store apps like Calculator, Mail and Calendar, Photos and so on, can't be removed using traditional methods. Instead, you should use PowerShell. Refer to this article:
To reinstall the Calculator app, you should issue a special PowerShell command, as described below.

Start a powershell session as administrator.
enter:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register '$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml'}
I could not used calc, calendar, ms store would not allow downloads and I could not sign in. Once I ran this the apps were registered and I could use the apps and the store.

I had the same issue, where the calculator app stopped working. Just flashed. What worked for me was opening the app store, Searching for 'Windows Calculator' and select 'Open' Fixed my issue.

Jamie, u da' bomb! It's an odd solution but it worked. All I got was a black screen when I opened the Windows 10 calculator app. I followed your instructions, went online to the Windows App Store, searched for the Windows 10 Calculator, found it and and opened it. Now the Microsoft Calculator app works fine!! Closed out of online app and the desktop app is good to go. Go figure. John Joseph Zodrow
